Tips to Stay Healthy on the Road
When you are on the road,
the tendency is to have limited options with your food choice. You do not
have to completely give up trying street foods or local delicacies; however,
you should be careful enough in order to protect yourself from acquiring
diseases. Below are some tips how to enjoy your meal while considering staying
healthy.
Make it a habit to wash
your hands. This is very basic, but is sometimes disregarded. You
may be touching public surfaces and things. You may also touch
the hands of the locals for your transactions. It is important that
you clean your hands before and after eating. You may also carry hand
sanitizer or anti-bacterial gel if in case there is no water.
Prefer well-cooked
foods. Cooked foods are safer than fresh ones. Whether you will be eating
in the street or in the restaurants, opt to have well cooked foods since they
are freer from germs. Avoid sea foods and other delicacies which seem to
be unfamiliar to you.
Be careful with the use
of utensils and glasses. As much as possible, refrain from using glasses,
fork and spoons from the eatery. It is better if you drink directly from
the bottle or from the can. You may also use a straw. You may also bring
disposable fork and spoon if you are uncertain with the sanitation.
Choose fruits and
vegetables that you can peel. If you feel that you want to eat
fruits or vegetables, look for those that you can peel since they are
safer. You can look for carrots, banana, cucumber, oranges and others. If
what you have does not have to be peeled, make sure to wash it with purified
water.
Avoid fruit shakes
and other juice drinks. Though they are hard to
resist, there is no assurance that they are made using purified
water. If you are really craving for fruit shakes, go to tourist-oriented
restaurant.
